Gout occurs due to the accumulation of uric acid salts in the body. Usually, the attack manifests itself suddenly, at night. At this time, the symptoms of gout are as follows: severe pain in the inflamed joint (usually the big toe), swelling and redness of the joints, as well as general disorders - fever, weakness, abdominal pain.
Gout, diet, and treatment are all interrelated. Gout treatment is a long process, however, the priority is to stop the pain itself and relieve the pain syndrome. In the future, proper nutrition is very important, since reducing the consumption of products containing uric acid salts (urat) leads to a slower development of the disease. Diet for gout patients is a matter of concern, because normalizing the diet will contribute to the rapid recovery of the disease and increase the interval between relapses of the disease. Gout products can only be used in certain types, so in terms of the patient's menu and diet, there are many rules that you need to know.
Menu and diet
First of all, we will look at the main points of nutrition and find out what kind of diet a patient with gout should have. Doctors advise patients to exclude animal protein from their diets, but it's not just dangerous for people with gout - animal fats and easily digestible carbohydrates are also very dangerous.
Food for gout should be frequent, but food should be eaten in small portions. Thus, during the day the patient should eat five to six times, and at least once a week should arrange a fasting day.
On fasting days, you can eat fresh vegetables and fruits. Furthermore, they can be in both raw and boiled (but unsalted) forms. The important thing to remember here is that you should only eat one vegetable or fruit per day, such as baked potatoes or raw apples.
Also, there is a very popular option for a fasting day - rice and apples. From the name it is clear that on this day the patient should eat rice and apples, but rice porridge itself must be prepared properly. So, to cook porridge for fasting day, you need to cook 75 g of rice with 750 ml of milk - this is a day's serving. Porridge should be eaten during the day, into three meals. Apples can be eaten up to 250 g, and it is best to boil them or make an unsweetened juice from them.
Of course, although there are many exceptions that will be described below, the gout menu should not be monotonous, and this is very important, since the body must receive all the necessary substances. Therefore, you need to pay attention to a balanced diet.
